The Phillies designated Sergio Escalona for assignment on Saturday to make room on the 40-man roster for re-signed reliever J.C. Romero. Escalona, 26, had a 3.81 ERA at double-A Reading in 2010. He struck out 53 in 54 1/3 innings and allowed just 46 hits.
