Yankees public address announcer Bob Sheppard missed the three-game opening series last week after injuring his hip at his home in Baldwin, L.I., on the night before the first home game. It was the first time Sheppard had missed an opening day since he started as the Yankees' public-address announcer in 1951.
"I was in so much pain that I don't think I cared the night that it happened," Sheppard said. "All I wanted to do was to have the bone put back into the socket."
