Nomar Garciaparra went 2-for-3 and scored a run for the Triple-A Las Vegas 51s on Thursday night as he rehabs from a rib cage injury. Garciaparra batted leadoff and played first base in the first of two games he plans to play in the minors before joining the Los Angeles Dodgers this weekend. He doubled to deep right-center field on the game's first pitch and singled in the third inning. In his final at-bat, Garciaparra was retired on a slow chopper to shortstop with runners on first and third and two outs in the fifth. "Health wise, everything looked good for him," Las Vegas manager Jerry Royster said. "He was ambitious with the bat and running the bases. He got to make some plays at first base. Everything seems to be on course."
