The Yankees informed Casey Close, the agent for Derek Jeter, on Thursday that they will improve their most recent offer to the free-agent shortstop, according to a source.
New York's standing offer to Jeter is a three-year, $45 million deal.
A baseball official with knowledge of the talks said the two sides are making "progress."
