The Athletics cut ties with longtime third baseman Eric Chavez on Wednesday when they declined his 2011 option. Chavez said in early September he may be forced to retire after 13 years in the big leagues with the franchise. The A's paid Chavez a $3 million buyout instead of exercising a $12.5 million option. Oakland also made decisions on Mark Ellis and Coco Crisp, deciding to bring both back next season.
