The Marlins and second baseman Dan Uggla are making progress in talks on a new contract.
Florida may be willing to increase their initial three-year offer to include a fourth season.
Uggla reportedly wants a five-year, $50 million deal.
Agent Terry Bross wouldn't elaborate but said he was "hopeful" that Uggla would get the deal he wants from the Marlins.
