The Brewers signed their closer, Derrick Turnbow, to a three-year contract Sunday afternoon. The deal is a reward for the 28-year-old, who went from the scrap heap to one of the National League's best closers in the span of one season. The right-hander tied the team's single-season record with 39 saves while posting a 1.74 ERA, second lowest among NL relievers. Assistant General Manager Gord Ash said it was a deal that made sense both for Turnbow and the team. "This is a perfect example of the player giving up something in terms of ultimate dollar and the club taking a risk," Ash said. "We get cost certainty, and he gets security." The contract will pay Turnbow $6.5 million dollars over the next three seasons.
