Tigers manager Jim Leyland believes that his first baseman, Miguel Cabrera, is a better American League MVP candidate than Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista. "[Bautista] can bomb it," Leyland said. "He's got big-time power." "Just like I was telling [commentator] Jim Price, today everybody was talking about Bautista, and they should be, because that's unbelievable, 42 [homers] or whatever it is, but Cabrera has 32 and [while] Bautista is hitting .263, Cabrera is hitting .341. I'm not downplaying what Bautista has done, because he's been fantastic and seems like a really good kid. I've been very impressed with him. Obviously, when I see him, I talk to him a little bit. I don't mean [these comments] to disrespect him, but [Cabrera's hitting nearly] .100 points higher."
