The Orioles have designated infielder Garrett Atkins for assignment. Atkins signed a one-year, $4.5 million deal with Baltimore this past offseason to be the team's starting first baseman. Baltimore will have 10 days to trade, release or ask waivers on Atkins, who is hitting .214 this season.
