Dodgers manager Joe Torre has disputed a report that he is unlikely to return next season because of the ongoing divorce of owner Frank McCourt and his wife. There is a widely held perception that the team's shrinking payroll is a result of McCourt's financial concerns stemming from the divorce. Fox Sports reported that "friends of Joe Torre doubt he would tolerate another year of the Dodgers' penny-pinching circus." Torre, who is in the final season of a three-year, $13 million contract, reiterated what he has said since negotiations on his possible one-year extension were placed on hold during spring training. "Obviously they aren't friends of mine," Torre said of the sources cited in the report. "I don't really allow those conversations to get out of my house anyway. I won't make up my mind until close to the end of the season"
