The New York Mets are closing in on a one-year, minor league contract with free-agent Mike Jacobs, a baseball source told ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick. Jacobs began his career as a 38th-round draft pick with New York in 1999. The Mets traded him to Florida in a deal for Carlos Delgado in November 2005. Jacobs could conceivably replace Delgado for the Mets.
