Free-agent first baseman Carlos Delgado might have to sign on with an American League team as a designated hitter.
Scouts that have watched Delgado play in Puerto Rico told ESPN.com's Jayson Stark that he may not have the range for first base.
"He's got no range at first -- none," said one scout. "He actually limps out there. He can't play first on a day-to-day basis. I think he can still DH, because he's still got power. But to play first for a team like the Mets? Can't see it."
