The Royals announced today that the club has signed outfielder Scott Podsednik to a one-year contract for 2010 with an option for the 2011 season. Consistent with club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed. Once the signing is confirmed by MLB and the Players Association, the Royals will make a corresponding 40-man roster move.
The 33-year old Podsednik led the White Sox last season with a .304 average, hitting 25 doubles, six triples, seven home runs, 48 RBI and 75 runs scored in 132 games. The left-handed hitter and thrower also stole 30 bases, good for eighth in the league, marking his fifth season of 30 or more steals. Podsednik?s 163 hits were the most in the Majors among all players with 132 games or less. The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder recorded 37 infield hits, third in the American League, while serving as the White Sox leadoff man.
