Barry Larkin, on the telephone from the Dominican Republic Wednesday afternoon, said he was pleased to have received 51.6 percent of the vote in his first year on the ballot for the Baseball Hall of Fame.
?I didn?t know what to expect (what with this being his first year),? said Larkin, a Silverton native who played his entire career (1986-2004) with the Reds. ?It's good, all good.?
Former Hall of Fame researcher and author Bill Deane, who is an expert on gauging vote totals, said the 51.6 percent is a good sign.
?If he gets in the mid- to high 30s or better, his future looks good,? Dean said before the vote. ?But if Larkin draws a vote total in the 20?s, especially the low 20?s, his future is in trouble.?
