The Cardinals are more optimistic than ever that they'll be able to re-sign outfielder Matt Holliday, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney. St. Louis offered Holliday a five-year deal worth approximately $80 million earlier this offseason, but the deal was rejected. Boston then offered Holliday an $82.5 million contract over five years, which was also rejected. Sources say Holliday's agent, Scott Boras, is going back to teams that had previously expressed interest in Holliday. Two of those clubs, the Red Sox and Mets, are now out of the running having added John Lackey and Jason Bay, respectively.
