Reports indicate that the Red Sox made an offer to free-agent outfielder Matt Holliday before signing John Lackey earlier this week. MLB Network's Peter Gammons and ESPN's Buster Olney reported the past offer on their Twitter feeds Friday. "Boston ecstatic with Lackey. Before he stepped foward, Sox offered 4x$15M to Bay and 5x$16.5 to Holliday," Gammons wrote. "Heard this: Before the Red Sox signed Lackey for $82.5 million, they offered $82.5 million to Holliday. Now they?re out on Holliday," Olney wrote.
