Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports believes that Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon will take the brunt of the blame for the team's playoff loss to the Angels. Papelbon blew a 6-4 lead in Game 3 of the ALDS in Boston on Sunday, allowing the Angels to rally and sweep the Red Sox. In the past, Papelbon has decided against signing a long-term contract, preferring to go through arbitration. Talk of a Papelbon trade first surfaced in Boston this summer when the Sox acquired Billy Wagner. The thinking was that the Red Sox could offer Wagner arbitration, close with him for one season, then turn the job over to Daniel Bard rather than pay Papelbon close to $10 million.
