Reliever Matt Wise and the Milwaukee Brewers agreed Thursday to a $1.7 million, two-year contract that avoided salary arbitration. The 30-year-old right-hander made 49 appearances for the Brewers last season, going 4-4 with a 3.36 ERA. He had his first major league save on Aug. 5 at Philadelphia, then went on the disabled list with a strained muscle. He gets a $100,000 signing bonus and salaries of $600,000 this year and $700,000 in 2007. In the second year of the contract, he can earn up to $100,000 in performance bonuses.
