The Diamondbacks don't feel as though the Dodgers acted in good faith in the trade that sent Jon Garland to Los Angeles. Arizona agreed Monday to send Garland to the Dodgers for a player to be named later. The D-Backs expected that player to be second baseman Tony Abreu. They also believed that Abreu would make close to the major-league salary minimum for two seasons and be eligible for salary arbitration the next three years. However, Abreu and the Dodgers were nearing a settlement on a grievance filed in 2007 that would award him extra days of service time and could make him arbitration eligible in 2011 instead of 2012, according to sources. Garland has already pitched for the Dodgers, and neither team would comment when contacted by the Arizona Republic.
