Rich Harden has been the Cubs best pitcher in the second half of the season. The right-hander is 3-1 with a 1.64 ERA and a 4-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio since the All-Star break. Harden will be a free agent at the end of the season, and because of his performance Chicago will likely have to pay a considerable amount to keep him. "I kind of don't even want to talk about it right now," Harden told the Chicago Tribune. "I still have to get through the season and pitch well here. Our focus is definitely on what we have to do this season, and not afterward. Yeah, I definitely like it here." There won't be many established starters on the market this winter, which could further drive Harden's value up. The Tribune believes that he'll command a contract in the $50-$60 million range over four years. RealGM Note: Harden is currently ranked 132nd amongst all players in FIC and 'deserves' a salary of $7M, exactly what he is making this season. Given his perpetual injury risk, Harden will likely see offers that don't exceed one or two seasons.
