Yankees manager Joe Girardi defended Jorge Posada's catching abilities after A.J. Burnett's bad outing on Saturday. New York started Jose Molina at catcher with C.C. Sabathia on the mound Sunday. It was the fourth time in Sabathia's last five starts that Molina caught the left-hander. "I have not given anyone a personal catcher here," Girardi told the New York Times. "I'll continue to rotate it. Physically, I talk to Jorge, and he's usually two out of three or three out of four. He's not 25 anymore. As I've told players, we need to keep you healthy for the long haul, not just for the week." At times this season, Posada has been criticized for a perceived lack of effectiveness with New York's pitching staff. "This is a guy that I believe has played in six World Series," Girardi said, overstating it by one. "He's doing something right. I think you could probably look at Jorge's winning percentage behind the plate, and he's doing something right. But the true onus falls on the pitcher, what they're going to throw. I would never want the pitcher to throw what I wanted if he didn't believe in it ? ever ? because conviction, to me, is extremely important to a pitcher. We're suggestion boxes."
