Mets reliever Billy Wagner will waive his no-trade clause to facilitate a trade to the Red Sox. New York has until Tuesday to complete a deal with Boston for the former closer. Wagner wants to pitch for a winner this year as he completes a nearly year-long comeback from elbow surgery. "Certainly, the Red Sox would give him a chance to win a World Series, and this year that's first and foremost," agent Bean Stringfellow told the Boston Herald. "From where we sit, that's all that matters right now. Over the next six weeks he'd have a chance to win, and then we could think about next year."
