Gary Sheffield had a closed door meeting with Mets manager Jerry Manuel on Monday. Manuel told the Star Ledger that the two talked about many things, but the meeting was highlighted by a discussion about the outfielder's playing time. Sheffield isn't happy about being kept out of the lineup despite the fact that he's "ready to go." The slugger has been slowed by a balky hamstring, which has kept him out since Wednesday. "We want to be sure that he's healthy enough where it doesn't reoccur, where he has to come out of the game," Manuel said. "I want to make sure we get a good read on it so we don't have that situation where you play a game and lose a whole other week or so."
