Cubs catcher Geovany Soto was forced to leave Tuesday night's game against the Astros because of a sore right shoulder.
Soto was the 2008 NL Rookie of the Year.
"It's very tough," left fielder Alfonso Soriano said. "We lost the game and we lost Geo. I hope it's nothing serious and he comes back in one or two days."
He will be re-examined on Wednesday, and manager Lou Piniella is holding out hope that he could return for the team's weekend series against Milwaukee.
