Former Mariners closer J.J. Putz, who signed with the Mets this offseason, says that the Mariners struggled last season because of the selfishness of some players. "There were just some guys that just weren't really team guys," Putz told the Seattle Times on Monday. New manager Don Wakamatsu is in charge of turning around a team that lost 101 games in 2008. "It depends if they hold everyone accountable equally, or some guys just get special treatment like it's been in the past," Putz said whether Wakamatsu will be able to turn thing around. Putz, specifically, mentioned Ichiro Suzuki. "It's hard to argue with 200 hits every year. ... I just think there's so much more he can do that doesn't happen," Putz said.
