The Kansas City Royals have signed infielder/outfielder Mark Teahen to a one-year contract for 2009, avoiding arbitration. Consistent with club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed. The 27-year old Teahen played in a career-best 149 games for Kansas City in 2008, hitting .255 with 31 doubles, 15 home runs and 59 RBI. A versatile performer, Teahen appeared at all three outfield spots as well as third base and first base last season. Acquired by the Royals on June 24, 2004, Teahen is a career .268 hitter with 47 home runs and 243 RBI in 532 games.
