The Yankees are reportedly willing to take a gamble in center field this season with a group of players capable of playing the position when needed. Johnny Damon, Melky Cabrera, Nick Swisher and Brett Gardner are capable of playing center for New York in 2009. "They're both missing something that would make that position more secure," said a veteran major league scout. "Right now, [Brett] Gardner has that outstanding speed but doesn't hit enough. And Cabrera's just OK as a hitter and fielder. This could be a gamble."
