The Brewers and shortstop J.J. Hardy have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year deal reportedly worth $4.65 million.
"Right now, J.J. is our shortstop," Milwaukee General Manager Doug Melvin said.
Hardy, 26, got a $2 million bump in his salary from last season.
He ranked second among major-league shortstops in home runs and third in RBI. He'll be eligible for free agency after the 2010 season.
