The Rays reached the World Series this past October with a payroll of $43.8 million, while Yankees will pay CC Sabathia and Mark Teixeira alone $45.5 million this coming season. New York's current payroll for the 2009 season is now approximately $209 million, almost five times larger than that of reigning AL Champion Tampa Bay. The Yankees have committed $423.5 million in salary in the last month, with $161 million going to left-handed pitcher Sabathia and $82.5 million to right-hander A.J. Burnett, and now $180 million going to Teixeira.
