The Red Sox badly want to land Mark Teixeira, but the team has made it known that they will not give the first baseman the ten-year deal he covets. Principal owner John Henry was asked on Tuesday if the team would rule out offering Teixeira a ten-year pact, and he responded as follows: "Yes. The Red Sox effectively had a 10-year deal with a player determined not to live up to his contract. A lot can change over 10 years, for both sides." Henry's reference was to the just-completed eight-year, $160 million deal for left fielder Manny Ramirez, which carried with it two option years.
