Matt Lawton has tested positive for steroids, Newsday has confirmed. Major League Baseball is expected to make an announcement later today. The positive test for Lawton, who was traded to the Yankees on Aug. 28, was first reported by Deadspin.com. Lawton filed for free agency earlier this week. In 21 games with the Yankees, Lawton struggled, going only 6-for-48 (.125). After he did not make the postseason roster, he asked to leave the team and head home instead of sticking around in the event he was needed as an injury replacement. Lawton faces a 10-day suspension at the start of next season, or once he joins a major-league team if it is after the season opener.
