Tampa Bay outfielder Rocco Baldelli filed for free agency on Friday, as many expected. The Rays declined to pick up Baldelli's $6-million option for 2009 during the season, but executive vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said Thursday that he expected the sides would talk soon and "try to figure out a way to continue working together."
