First, the Marlins front office wouldn't say whether Carlos Delgado will return. Now new manager Joe Girardi is also keeping mum. "Obviously they have to do what they feel is best, but we've talked about it," Girardi told the Palm Beach Post on Thursday. "Knowing you have guys like [Josh] Beckett, [Dontrelle] Willis, [Miguel] Cabrera who are going to be competitive, you're going to have a chance to win every night. The exact composition, we're not exactly sure what the team is going to be." There is speculation that the Marlins could dump Delgado's contract so they can sign Beckett and Willis, both of whom are eligible for salary arbitration, to long-term deals.
