Two weeks ago the Phillies gave Cole Hamels an extra day of rest rather than have him face the Mets on regular rest, but he could face New York on regular rest this Sunday night, according to News Journal.
Hamels declined to discuss the topic with reporters but has admitted that he might benefit from additional rest late in the season.
"If he has an easy go and doesn't have to push it too far, we'll think about it," pitching coach Rich Dubee said of Cole's scheduled start on Tuesday night. "We've got five days. We'll see how he feels. You'd like to go with your horse every five days, if possible. But, again, we have to find out where he is physically."
The Mets have a two-game lead over the Phillies for first place in the NL East.
