Joe Girardi has agreed in principle to become the Florida Marlins' new manager. The contract will be finalized tonight, and the New York Yankees bench coach officially will be announced as Florida's manager Thursday in Miami, Peter Gammons and Florida media outlets reported. Girardi had also met twice in recent days with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays to discuss their vacant managerial opening. He spent 15 years as a major-league catcher, then went into broadcasting in 2004. He came out of the booth to join the Yankees' staff this season. The Marlins are replacing Jack McKeon, who led them to the World Series title in 2003 but resigned after the team finished 83-79 this year.
