Second baseman Rickie Weeks underwent surgery on a torn ligament at the base of his left thumb that bothered him for much of the season.
The team said Weeks, a rookie called up from the minors last June, had the surgery in Phoenix to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in the thumb.
The thumb will be in a cast for about six weeks, and Weeks then will undergo four weeks of rehabilitation.
