Diamondbacks pitcher Brandon Webb was removed after five innings on Wednesday night after getting struck in the side by a line drive and suffering from a 'dead arm', according to The Arizona Republic. "He felt it a little bit, but at that point, the way we had been riding him, I didn't want to run him out there for two more innings and get his pitch counts up," manager Bob Melvin said of the line drive. "Innings-wise he's pitched quite a bit for us. Just wanted to give him a little blow." Webb threw 58 pitches before he was pulled. His velocity has gone down in recent weeks, beginning a few starts ago against the Braves. "Yeah, it doesn't hurt," Webb said. "Maybe a dead-arm period or something like that. Like I said, it doesn't hurt, so it's tough to tell. Everything feels good."
