Multiple sources indicate that the Pirates will draft Vanderbilt third baseman Pedro Alvarez with the second overall pick in Thursday's MLB Draft, according to The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Tampa Bay has reportedly made it known that they will pass on Alvarez with the first overall pick.
Pittsburgh will then have to discuss a contract with Alvarez and super-agent Scott Boras before the mandated Aug. 15 deadline, no easy task.
