Gary Carter said on Tuesday that he's not campaigning for the manager's job with the Mets and that he hopes the team turns things around soon, according to ESPN.com. "I want to clear this up especially," Carter said Tuesday in an interview with ESPN's Mike and Mike in the Morning radio show. "I never wanted to try to undermine or do anything to bring this to a situation where I'm trying to campaign for something." "I would love to get back to the big leagues as a coach, possibly a manager. I would love that opportunity. [But] I wish Willie well," Carter added. The interview came days after Carter was quoted as saying: "I just want them to know of my availability. I'm only a phone call away because my contract allows me to leave the ballclub. I could be in New York tomorrow, if necessary, because if there's anything at the major league level I can leave this job."
