John Smoltz will make a rehab start for Class AA Mississippi on Saturday to begin what's expected to be a short injury-rehab assignment, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. When he comes off the disabled list it will be as a closer rather than as a starter, in hopes that pitching over shorter periods will keep him off the disabled list. "I wish we could clone him to have him in the rotation and closing," Manager Bobby Cox said. "That'd be nice." Smoltz, 41, has been on the DL for nearly four weeks with inflammation of the rotator cuff and biceps tendon in his right shoulder.
