Red Sox slugger Manny Ramirez has been getting some help at the plate this season in the form of a high-tech mouthpiece, according to The Boston Herald. Before at-bats this season Manny has been putting a Pure Power Mouthguard into his mouth. The device is designed to help relax the muscles in the jaw, neck, and head while he swings the bat. The theory is that while the muscles are relaxed you can create a bite that improves strength and balance. "I love it," Ramirez said Wednesday of the mouthpiece. "It?s a great tool. A lot of guys carry tension in their heads and neck," said Paul Lessard, Red Sox head athletic trainer. "If your head and neck are more relaxed, you should produce more power."
