Mets' righthander Pedro Martinez left the team Wednesday to be with his ailing father who is battling a form of brain cancer, as reported by Yahoo.com.
Sidelined since early April with a left hamstring injury, Martinez was expected to join the team for a bullpen session Wednesday.
But after learning his father Pablo experienced a medical setback, Martinez went to be with his father in the Dominican Republic, a Mets' spokesman said. It is uncertain how long he will be away from the club.
