Jon Lester threw the eighteenth no-hitter in Red Sox history on Monday night as he guided Boston to a 7-0 victory over the Kansas City Royals. Lester allowed just two baserunners, while striking out nine batters. Boston enjoyed their last no-hitter on Sept. 1, 2007 when Clay Buchholz posted one in just his second Major League start. The Red Sox scored five runs in the third inning, and catcher Jason Varitek provided yet another offense spark in the seventh with a two-run home run. Lester survived cancer to battle back and pitch in the team's World Series-clinching game last fall.
