Brian Bruney will miss the rest of the season for the Yankees after finding out that he will need surgery to repair a tear in the Lisfranc joint of his right foot, according to the New York Daily News.
He visited a foot specialist in Manhattan, who confirmed the team's fears that he might need such serious surgery.
"It's a big loss," Joe Girardi said. "The doctor recommended surgery and it is going to be awhile before he's pitching. From what I understand, if somebody in 1793 had it, they amputated."
Bruney was 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA in 12 games this season.
