Yankees catcher Jorge Posada ignited a brawl against the Blue Jays on Tuesday. Posada pumped into reliever Jesse Carlson after scoring a run in the eighth inning. Earlier in the inning, Carlson threw behind Posada during an at-bat that resulted in a walk. New York pitchers hit Toronto's Edwin Encarnacion and Aaron Hill earlier in the game. Following Posada's elbow, both benches cleared in a brawl that was much more physical than your typical baseball fight. "It got pretty heavy and pretty thick pretty quickly," Alex Rodriguez said. "I think we're all fortunate and glad no one got hurt." After the game, Posada regretted the incident. "He was just right there on the line to the dugout. We got carried away and hopefully that's the end of it," Posada said. "I don't want my kids to see that. ... Fight in the middle of the field, benches clearing -- that's a bad example." Yankees manager Joe Girardi was hit in the face by an inadvertent fist in the scrum and had a scratch on the left side of his face. "It's all right. I don't think anyone was trying to hit me," Girardi said. "I thought the umpires did a good job, pulling people off, but it's hard when people have 35-man rosters and they're running in from all directions."
