Report: No Truth To Hanley Rumors

May 12, 2014 1:55 AM

There is reportedly no truth to rumors that the Red Sox and Marlins are discussing a possible trade involving shortstop Hanley Ramirez. A report in the New York Daily News on Sunday suggested that the two clubs, who agreed to a trade earlier this decade involving Ramirez, were talking about a blockbuster deal. "There is no truth to the rumor that the #Marlins are in trade talks with the #Red Sox -- or anyone else -- for shortstop Hanley Ramirez," Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald wrote on his Twitter page.

Boston Focusing On Lackey, Not Halladay

Jul 31, 2014 5:35 PM

The Red Sox are said to be focusing their attention on John Lackey instead of Roy Halladay. Boston doesn't like the idea of giving up Clay Buchholz and Casey Kelly in a deal for Halladay, and signing Lackey could give them the flexibility to make a trade for a hitter. The Boston Globe reports that unless the Blue Jays lower their asking price, the Red Sox will court Lackey and possibly deal Buchholz for a guy like Miguel Cabrera or Adrian Gonzalez.

Sources: Rockies Likely To Keep Spilborghs

Oct 11, 2014 2:44 PM

The Rockies plan to keep outfielder Ryan Spilborghs unless they are overwhelmed by an offer, sources told FOX Sports. Spilborghs is eligible for arbitration for the first time in his career and several teams have expressed interest in the outfielder. The Braves and White Sox are among the teams that like Spilborghs, but Colorado isn't expecting to receive a big enough offer to move him. He hit .241 with eight home runs and 48 RBI in 352 at-bats last season.

GM: Marlins Aren't Dealing Johnson

Jun 20, 2014 3:59 PM

Once and for all, trade rumors surrounding Marlins ace Josh Johnson should be over. Amid speculation, Florida general manager Michael Hill said in a radio interview on Saturday that Johnson won't be dealt. "Yes, I can say with certainty, yes," Hill told 790 The Ticket's "Hot Stove Show" when asked if Johnson would be in the team's rotation next season. "Obviously, Josh Johnson is a big part of our club," Hill said on the show. "He is a second-time [arbitration-eligible] pitcher who we still have under control for two more years. From that standpoint, he's going to be here. The strength of this organization is built with our pitching." The Marlins and Johnson were not able to come to terms on a long-term contract.

Rangers Aren't Inclined To Move Millwood

Oct 5, 2014 7:33 PM

Kevin Millwood has been mentioned in trade rumors, but the Boston Globe reports that the Rangers are unlikely to deal him. The Brewers, who are looking for pitching, have been linked to Millwood. Two factors, however, could make Texas more likely to deal Millwood. They have an uncertain ownership situation and trading Millwood could give them more money to pursue John Lackey.

Agent: Marlins Unlikely To Deal Ace

Oct 5, 2014 7:16 PM

The Marlins have no intentions of dealing pitcher Josh Johnson this winter, according to two sources. "I'd be less surprised if Elijah showed up at my parents' house this Passover than if they trade him before the start of the season," agent Matt Sosnick told FOX Sports. Johnson, 25, is eligible for free agency after the 2011 season.

Lowe Wants To Remain In Atlanta

Sep 12, 2014 8:54 PM

Derek Lowe has heard trade rumors mentioning his name, but he would like to remain with the Braves. He struggled over the season's final two months and Atlanta is believed to be looking for more offense. "I know they have holes they want to fill, and I know, from my perspective, when you pitch as poorly as I pitched, and given the caliber of the starting pitchers we have, I wouldn't be surprised by something like that," he told the Boston Globe. "But in terms of whether someone called me to tell me, 'Would you be interested in being traded somewhere?' No, I haven't received that call." Lowe doesn't have a no-trade clause his in four-year, $60 million contract. "It's a first-class organization from top to bottom," Lowe said of the Braves. He went 15-10 with a 4.67 ERA in 34 starts in 2009.

The Red Sox are searching for a solution at shortstop and a report indicates that they have their eyes on Hanley Ramirez. Bill Madden of the New York Daily News writes that "the Red Sox, who let incumbent Alex Gonzalez go, are reportedly engaged in talks with Florida about reacquiring the All-Star shortstop."
