Marlins Keeping An Eye On DeRosa

Oct 16, 2014 3:47 PM

The Marlins are mulling over the possibility of making a run at Giants infielder Mark DeRosa. Last weekend, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports wrote that DeRosa would be a perfect fit for the Marlins. Florida has used four different players at fourth already this season. DeRosa is entering the final year of a two-year, $12 million contract. If the Marlins acquired him on May 15, he would cost them about $4.5 million through season's end.

Giants Making Schierholtz Available

Aug 14, 2014 2:11 PM

The Giants are letting teams know that outfielder Nate Schierholtz is available via trade. He'll likely be the odd man out when Andres Torres returns from his Achilles injury. Schierholtz, 27, is hitting .226 with a home run in just 31 at-bats this season. He is a .268 hitter for his career with a .311 OBP.

Pirates Attempting To Trade Josh Rodriguez

Oct 26, 2014 11:45 AM

The Pirates are trying to trade Rule 5 pick Josh Rodriguez, according to general manager Neal Huntington. If they aren't able to trade him, outright waivers is the next option. "If he gets claimed or traded, it's a great thing for Josh because it means he stays in the big leagues," Huntington said. "If we get through those two phases and we're not able to find a spot at the major league level for Josh, then the next step becomes going to Cleveland and seeing if there's a fit there. But we have to work through the first two steps first."

King Felix Trade Possible In 2012?

Oct 26, 2014 2:32 AM

The Mariners won't trade pitcher Felix Hernandez this season, but Geoff Baker of The Seattle Times writes that all bets are off after the 2011 campaign. Baker cites the likelihood that Seattle won't contend in 2012. "No, the M's are not going to contend in 2012 either. The rest of this division is still way ahead of them and no one-year transformation is going to be that drastic," he wrote. "But by early 2012, the M's should have a much better idea than they do right now of when they are going to contend."

Young Isn't Thinking Trade From Rangers

Feb 12, 2014 5:01 AM

Michael Young, who heard his name in trade rumors leading up to the 2011 season, isn't thinking about the possibility of being dealt by the Rangers. He said Tuesday that "right now a trade is the furthest thing from my mind." Young was asked by ESPN's Mike and Mike in the Morning if he still wanted to be traded to a team that would play him everyday. "At this point now, my thoughts are completley on the Texas Rangers," he said. "That's the way it should be. I'm not going to sit here and say I want to leave a team that's 9-1, a team that went to the World Series last year. Right now a trade is the furthest thing from my mind. Once the season rolls around, it's time to play baseball. I'm not going to concern myself with things I can't control." Texas has opened the season with a 9-1 record. Young is hitting .293 with three RBI and an OPS of .310.

Executive Expects Mets To Trade Reyes, Pelfrey

Feb 12, 2014 4:59 AM

The Mets could trade starter Mike Pelfrey and shortstop Jose Reyes sooner than expected, according to a scout that worked with general manager Sandy Alderson. Pelfrey struggled mightily against the Phillies on Wednesday night. The executive told The New York Daily News, knowing Alderson, and barring a true surprise season of contention for the Mets, he fully expected him to break down the team "the way he did in Oakland and build it with the guys he wants." He expects Alderson to trade Jose Reyes "because he won't pay big money for a leadoff hitter who's not an on-base guy," but said he was surprised there has been no speculation about trading Pelfrey. "He's not a No. 1," the exec said, "he doesn't have a pitch to put hitters away, and he may not get better than he is right now. I think Sandy is going to be looking down the road there, knowing (Scott) Boras will be looking for big money for Pelfrey in a couple of years, and knowing the value might not be there. "He also knows the closer Pelfrey gets to free agency, the less he'll get for him, so I wouldn't be surprised if he trades him this year."

Rangers Haven't Closed Door On Trading Young

Oct 5, 2014 7:38 PM

The Rangers haven't ruled out trading Michael Young, but a timeline and potential destination remain uncertain. The Mets and Phillies are options, according to The Boston Globe. A scout told Nick Cafardo of the Globe that one scenario would have Texas sending Young to the Mets for reliever Frankie Rodriguez, which would allow the Rangers to move Neftali Feliz into their rotation.
