The Los Angeles Dodgers continue to add new pieces to the 2006 puzzle. GM Ned Colletti signed veteran outfielder Kenny Lofton to a one-year contract on Tuesday.
Kenny Lofton, 38, is a veteran of fifteen seasons in the Major Leagues. Lofton, who spent last season with the Philadelphia Phillies, batted .335 along with two homers and 36 RBI during the 2005 campaign.
The 38-year-old Lofton is a six-time all-star and has also won four Gold Glove Awards.
Breaking Down The Deal
This signing is certainly a downgrade from Milton Bradley. Kenny Lofton does give the Dodgers a solid # 2 hitter after Furcal. Lofton still possesses good (not great) speed and can play solid defense the field. The injury problems might be an obstacle for the veteran outfielder, but Lofton should be able to produce an adequate season for the Dodgers both on offense and defense.
