1. Tampa Bay Devil Rays: David Price LHP Vanderbilt He has been considered the top pick for a long time now and will only add to his stature as Vanderbilt gets set to start their NCAA tournament run. 2. Kansas City Royals: Rick Porcello RHP Seton Hall Prep (New Jersey) Considered to be the top high school pitching prospect in the country, Porcello is a great addition in Dayton Moore?s rebuilding plan? 3. Chicago Cubs: Matt Weiters C Georgia Tech The clear cut top catcher available, the Cubs should grab him at No. 3 and pencil him in behind the plate for the next decade. 4. Pittsburgh Pirates: Josh Vitters 3B Cypress HS (California) Vitters has smoked high school pitching throughout his career and has a ton of upside for Pittsburgh as they need to add punch to their organization. 5. Baltimore Orioles: Ross Detweiler LHP Missouri State Some media reports have this one as a lock and would be a nice concession to Price in the tall, lefty category. 6. Washington Nationals: Jarrod Parker RHP Norwell HS (Indiana) It is expected the Nationals will go pitching with this pick and while they could go with more immediate help, they won?t be able to pass on Parker?s potential. 7. Milwaukee Brewers: Phillippe Aumont RHP Ecole Du Versant Gatineau, Quebec The 6-foot-7 Canadian has jumped up the draft charts and will help fill the pitching voids for the Milwaukee Brewers going forward. 8. Colorado Rockies: Daniel Moskos LHP Clemson Pitcher is the choice here for Colorado and Moskos is a proven collegiate pitcher who should see a fast rise to the majors for the Rockies. 9. Arizona Diamondbacks: Andrew Brackman RHP North Carolina State He has slipped in his production this season and he could fall farther in the draft, but Arizona will snag him at No.9 and start retooling their young pitching. 10. San Francisco Giants: Mike Moustakas 3B/1B Chatsworth HS (California) The Giants should go hitter with their first pick and Moustakas is running head-to-head with Vitters as the top high school hitter in the country. 11. Seattle Mariners: Michael Main RHP/OF Deland HS (Florida) The Florida product has great versatility and can fill whatever is your biggest void in the system and in Seattle that looks to be pitcher. 12. Florida Marlins: Beau Mills 3B/1B Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) The NAIA star also has versatility in the field and is an excellent hitter who will add hitting depth for Florida and provide insurance going forward. 13. Cleveland Indians: Max Scherzer RHP Fort Worth Cats He was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks last year, but never signed. His time away from big-time baseball raises questions and makes this a boom or bust pick for Cleveland. 14. Atlanta Braves: Jason Heyward OF Henry Co. HS (Georgia) The Georgia high school product is the prototypical first round pick for the Braves, who fits their mold of local product who is a pure athlete. 15. Cincinnati Reds: Kevin Ahrens 3B Memorial HS (Texas) This pick is still being reported as a near lock as the Reds just need talent to bring life back to the organization. 16. Toronto Blue Jays: Madison Bumgarner LHP South Caldwell HS (North Carolina) We are still projecting he lands in Toronto, but with his size (6-foot-5) and being a lefty, he could rise to as high as No.8 to the Colorado Rockies. 17. Texas Rangers: Nick Schmidt LHP Arkansas He is new to the first round, but he is another big lefty who is SEC-tested heading into pro ball for the pitching deprived Texas Rangers. 18. St. Louis Cardinals: Jack McGeary LHP Roxbury Latin HS (Massachusetts) McGeary is my favorite pitcher in this draft and while this might be high for him, he is ready for pro ball coming out of high school and will be a nice pick for the Cardinals. 19. Philadelphia Phillies: Matt Dominguez 3B Chatsworth HS (California) They need a big bat at third base to match first baseman Ryan Howard and Dominguez is expected to develop into a big time hitter, even though he could have a long development time. 20. Los Angeles Dodgers: Matt Harvey RHP Fitch HS (Conn.) The Dodgers can go anywhere with this pick, but with some older pitchers with injury concerns, they should go with pitching here and Harvey is the best one left on the board. 21. Toronto Blue Jays: Josh Smoker LHP Calhoun HS (Georgia) Smoker could and maybe should go higher than No. 21, but he slips here and Toronto will happily grab him as their second first round lefty. 22. San Francisco Giants: Kyle Russell OF Texas He has had an excellent season and will give the Giants system a jolt in an outfield that has relied on average veterans of late. 23. San Diego Padres: Blake Beavan RHP Irving HS (Texas) A strong high school arm should land somewhere around No.23 on June 7 as his potential at 6-foot-7 override any waiting time for him to develop. 24. Texas Rangers: Brett Cecil LHP Maryland The Rangers need pitching desperately, this is why they will make Cecil their second college pitcher in the first round to build their pitching prospects. 25. Chicago White Sox: Michael Burgess OF Hillsborough HS (Florida) For some reason, I just see Burgess as a Ozzie Guillen type of guy and expect the White Sox to take a flyer on Burgess when he shouldn?t be taken this high, based on his showings in high school. 26. Oakland A?s: Matt LaPorta 1B, Florida LaPorta is an excellent power hitter who can play either 1B or DH in the American League. He could turn into a Billy Beane draft steal in just a few years as well. 27. Detroit Tigers: Ryan Dent 2B Wilson HS (California) Dent is a quality middle infield prospect who will need time to develop, but has a high ceiling who should make an impact in the Major Leagues before long. 28. Minnesota Twins: Nick Noonan SS Francis Parker HS (California) A newcomer to the mock draft, Noonan was rated as the 18th best player in the draft by ESPN?s Keith Law in his May 17 rankings. 29. San Francisco Giants: Casey Weathers RHP Vanderbilt Weathers is the best closer in the draft and the Giants are in need of bullpen help. He could see an early call-up to the majors because of his college pedigree. 30. New York Yankees: Joe Savery LHP Rice He has big-time college experience and will be another step for the Yankees in their quest to add more organizational pitching depth. Think you can do better?
