Twins Become First Club To Hit 300 Home Runs

Sep 27, 2019 7:42 AM

The Minnesota Twins have become the first club in Major League history to hit 300 home runs in a season.

Jonathan Schoop hit the milestone home run off Jose Cisnero of the Detroit Tigers.

"It is great that I got to hit the 300th homer, but this record is about more than me," Schoop said. "We've got a lot of guys with a ton of homers, but so many other guys have hit big ones when we needed it."

Earlier this week the Twins clinched their first division title since 2010.

Ronald Acuna Becomes Third Player To Hit 40 HRs At 21 Or Younger

Sep 20, 2019 7:41 AM

Ronald Acuna, Jr. has become just the third player in Major League history to hit 40 homers in a season at 21 years old or younger.

Acuna hit his historic home run in the third inning against the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday.

The Atlanta Braves' victory over the Phillies clinched the club at least a tie for first place in the National League East.

"That's the most exciting thing up to this point," Acuna said through a translator. "That's what we're all looking for. I think for all of us, it's just come out with that same energy, that same enthusiasm, get that win and hopefully celebrate. That's something we're all looking forward to."

Giants-Red Sox Combine To Use Record-Tying 24 Pitchers

Sep 18, 2019 7:29 AM

The San Francisco Giants and Boston Red Sox tied a Major League record on Tuesday night by combining to use 24 pitchers.

The game lasted 5 hours, 54 minutes and featured 50 players overall.

"I wanted to get my 10,000 steps, and I was a little behind," Bruce Bochy jokingly said of the pitching changes. "We had some guys that picked each other up. It was September baseball with added arms.

"You never like to use that many pitchers. Believe me."

San Francisco's pitchers threw 294 pitches to Boston's 253.

Biggios Become Second Father-Son Duo To Hit For Cycles

Sep 18, 2019 7:26 AM

Cavan Biggio hit for the cycle on Tuesday night, entering his family into Major League history.

Biggio homered in the third inning, singled in the sixth, doubled in the eighth and tripled in the ninth for the Toronto Blue Jays.

"I did know my dad had one," Cavan Biggio said. "I have a ticket to the game he got it in in my room my whole life. I didn't think I was going to get up there for the opportunity."

Craig Biggio hit for the cycle at Colorado's Coors Field on April 8, 2002.

The only other father-son duo in major league history to hit for the cycle was Gary Ward for Minnesota at Milwaukee on Sept. 19, 1980, and Daryle Ward for Pittsburgh at St. Louis on May 26, 2004.

Jonathan Villar Hits MLB's Record-Setting 6,106th HR

Sep 12, 2019 8:36 AM

Jonathan Villar hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning at Camden Yards on Wednesday night, making history in the process.

The home run was the 6,106th homer of 2019, setting an Major League Baseball single-season record. The previous record was set in 2017.

There are 18 days left in the regular season.

"Somebody told me after the homer. That's unbelievable," Villar said. "That's impressive for me, not for me, it's for the team because we hit it here. That's awesome. They put the bat in the Hall of Fame. I'm excited for that."

Yankees Hit Three Home Runs, Surpass Last Season's Mark

Sep 9, 2019 7:41 AM

The New York Yankees hit more home runs than any other team in Major League history last season.

They slugged 267 homers, a mark they surpassed on Sunday night against the Boston Red Sox.

Aaron Judge predicted in the spring that "we're going to crush that."

The Yankees don't hold the Major League mark anymore, however, as the Minnesota Twins have 276 home runs through Sunday.

"It's amazing," Gleyber Torres said. "I didn't know we broke the record again. All of the guys hit pretty well. We've got the same plan, to attack early, and when we hit homers we're great. We'll just try to continue that and try to win most of the games."

Jorge Soler Becomes First Royal With 40 Homers

Sep 5, 2019 7:19 AM

Jorge Soler hit his 40th home run of the season on Wednesday night as the Kansas City Royals beat the Detroit Tigers 5-4.

The blast extended Soler's franchise mark for homers. He's the only member of the franchise to reach the 40-home run mark.

"Getting No. 40 is really important. But really, I was really happy to get 30," he said through an interpreter. "It felt like I've hit it like that a bunch of times."

Ned Yost said he thought Soler had tensed up recently with the record in reach.

"He's back to being himself," Yost said. "There's a little relief for me. I wanted him to get it. Now every home run from now on he'll break the record. I like that. I'm anxious to see how many he can hit."

Dodgers Break NL Record For Home Runs In A Season

Sep 5, 2019 7:15 AM

The Los Angeles Dodgers broke the National League record for home runs in a season during Wednesday's game against the Colorado Rockies.

The Dodgers have hit 250 this year, besting the Houston Astros' previous record of 249, which they set in 2000.

Joc Pederson opened the game with his eighth leadoff homer of the season to match the record, then set the mark with a two-run blast in the fourth inning.

The Dodgers' feat came just four days after the Minnesota Twins broke the American League and Major League record with their 268th homer of the season.
